In these 3 videos you will see me working with my newest addition Border Collie pup Sparkles.
Video one is day 1 of her being at home with me and our first training session. Here we just work on a sit, nose touch to my hand and some play. A nose touch is a great way of building a positive association with your hands so puppies don't jump away from you and become hand shy. I incorporate play into most of my training sessions as we need to have fun together to build our bond. Puppies can also learn a lot through playing with us. Here I use a long handled chaser toy to encourage her to chase and grab the toy without pressure of proximity.
This Way!
Video two is a fun chasing game called This Way. It is great for preventing our dogs running off after other things if they love chase as the game becomes about chase with us. In the middle I give her a little break and ask her for some sits and nose touches again so that she also learns to be able to think while in arousal.
Bring the toy!
Video three is about starting to teach pup to bring the toy to us. By running away from our pups we remove pressure and worry that we are going to remove their resources so instead build their confidence in wanting to be with us rather than run off and have a party for one.

We will follow through in real time the raising of Border CollieĀ puppiesĀ up to 6 months of age who are being raised as either pets or with sport in mind.
Many attend a 6 weekĀ puppyĀ course and then think theirĀ puppyĀ is trained but the sad fact is that this is just the beginning. It is the equivalent of taking a child to primary school and expecting them to finish with a degree. Many Border Collies are handed into rescue as young adolescents due to problems having developed that the owner can not cope with.
This course aims to help owners both prevent and work through these problems and raise well adjusted dogs.
